The Helsinki Christmas markets, for example, with their various events, are a charm every year. And you don’t have to limit yourself to just one event in the capital – there are markets for all tastes!

Helsinki is big enough to offer a wide variety of Christmas markets. There will be markets on different days in different parts of the city, allowing you to get into the Christmas spirit throughout November and December. Below is an overview of the best Christmas markets in Helsinki.
Tuomas Christmas Market (Tuomaan Markkinat)

The most famous Christmas market in Helsinki, Tuomas Markkinat, can of course be found at the Senate Square. The stunning open-air market is the city’s oldest Christmas market and the area is often filled with hundreds of different operators. In addition to vendors, the market is of course full of street food and, of course, warm mulled wine.

This year, the area will also feature an old-fashioned merry-go-round. The Christmas market at Helsinki’s Senate Square also offers a variety of performances, from choir singing to elf games.
Of course, there will be an even more magnificent Christmas tree, with beautiful Christmas lights creating a glowing backdrop for Christmas pictures.
There will be plenty of entertainment for children too. The Christmas market is often a chance to meet elves and cute animals, not forgetting of course the real star of Christmas, Santa Claus.
The Old Christmas Market (Vanhan Joulutori)

Vanhan Joulutori is the traditional Christmas market in Helsinki. The Christmas market at the Old Student House (Vanha Ylioppilastalo) always involves several participants and the products sold are high-quality Finnish handicrafts. The stunning historic setting creates a truly unique atmosphere for the Christmas market. If you’re looking for a traditional Christmas feel, you’re sure to find it here.

The accessible entrance is located on the left side of the Kaivopiha, from the main entrance. The Old Christmas Market is easy to reach by public transport: the train station is just a couple of minutes’ walk away and the Ylioppilastalo tram stop is a stone’s throw away.
Teurastamo Christmas Market (Teurastamon joulumarkkinat)
- Address: Työpajankatu 2, Helsinki
- Dates: 20.–21.12.2025
- Opening hours: Saturday at 11am – 6pm. Sunday from 11am – 5pm
The Helsinki Christmas Market will also take you to the old slaughterhouse, where Christmas has been celebrated for almost a decade. This year again, the Teurastamo Christmas market will be filled with delicious treats from local businesses and ideas for hampers.

In addition to the familiar Teurastamo restaurants, visitors can enjoy the restaurants and cafés that open during the market. Among others, the popular Jädelino will wake up from its winter sleep and keep its doors open for the duration of the market. In particular, Teurastamo will be full of tasty gift ideas, as local businesses will be selling a variety of gloggies, chocolates and sausages!
The slaughterhouse is located on the corner of Kalasatama, within walking distance from the REDI shopping centre at Työpajankatu 2.
Women’s Christmas Fair (Naisten Joulumessut)

At the fair, held at the Old Port in Katajanokka, all exhibitors are women selling handmade products. They will be selling knitwear, art textiles, Christmas decorations, ceramics, jewellery, leather and woodwork, candles, products made from recycled materials and Christmas treats.
There are over 370 exhibitors from all over Finland. The Women’s Christmas Fair has been held since 1922.
At the Women’s Christmas Fair it is easy to find a domestic, high-quality, unique and ecological gift for someone who already has everything.
Other great Helsinki Christmas markets
There are other great, smaller Christmas markets around Helsinki. Christmas markets and streets are located in the main shopping centres, among other places. In addition, the Cable Factory Christmas Market used to be a popular event, which unfortunately has been discontinued for a few years.
In previous years, it was also possible to admire the Christmas market organised by the Aalto University Art and Design students.
The Ornamo Christmas Market is another popular Christmas event in Helsinki. The bazaars showcasing Finnish design and crafts are guaranteed to fill your gift list with ideas, with displays of clothing, graphics and art.
