Christmas markets in Poland (Polish: Jarmarki Bożonarodzeniowe w Polsce) are growing year on year, following in the footsteps of the extremely popular tradition in Germany and other Western European countries. Wonderful decorations, strings of lights, delicious smells and a unique atmosphere – who doesn’t love?
Stalls with cheap products “made in China” are becoming a thing of the past, replaced by handicrafts, high-quality Christmas decorations or regional delicacies. More and more accompanying events are being organised – concerts, performances, shows and a variety of attractions – ice rink, competitions, merry-go-rounds,…

One of Poland’s leading Christmas markets is certainly the one held on the market square in Wrocław. The most recognisable decoration here is the giant Christmas Windmill. A gate is set up on the side of Świdnicka Street, and when you cross it, you are transported into an enchanted land. A lot of attractions for children have been prepared.

They can learn about the most beautiful fairy tales in the Fairy Tale Forest, have a spin on the ‘Rudolf and friends’ merry-go-round, take part in handicraft workshops or try to pass the Winter Labyrinth. There is also a rich artistic programme with live performances, a Fairytale Parade of Elves and Reindeer and a Santa’s Greeting. On the other hand, the variety of items and treats on sale can make your head spin.

Here you will find not only traditional Polish dishes, but also French pancakes or sweet Spanish churros. High-quality products from all over the world, jewellery, ceramics, sculptures, decorations, clothing and ornaments are sold. Only during the fair can you also meet the Gift Dwarf, who grants Christmas wishes.

In 2023, the Christmas Market in Gdańsk took second place in the Best Christmas Markets competition organized by the Europe’s Best Destinations portal. Almost 48,000 people voted!
The Gdańsk Christmas Market is traditionally held on the Coal Market between the two famous gates, the Golden Gate and the Upland Gate. It is then that truly fairy-tale decorations are created with the Angel Mill, the Enchanted Carriage in which you can take a photo, giant baubles or the Haven under the Mistletoe especially for lovers. There is also a fun sleigh flight simulator, a talking human Moose Lucek or a beautiful Venetian carousel.

At weekends, you can also see large-scale animations. At the festively decorated stalls, artisans sell jewellery, ceramics or handmade clothing, while the palate is treated to traditional cold cuts or dumplings. The nearby Armoury hosts the Christmas Art Fair, with competitions and performances.

This year Katowice could not be missing from the list of the best Christmas Markets in Poland. The market organised here will impress even regular visitors to the Jarmark in Gdańsk or Wrocław. This year’s novelty is a giant Ferris wheel with a height of 33 metres.
This is a great opportunity to get to know Katowice from a new perspective. Attractions that will enchant children will be fairy tale houses with moving figures, a train straight from a fairy tale, or fairy tales in an open-air cinema! Adults, on the other hand (and perhaps not only), will certainly want to make use of the seasonal 20×20 metre ice rink.
Poznań Christmas Market
- Polish: Jarmark Bożonarodzeniowy w Poznaniu
- Address: Stary Rynek, 61-772 Poznan
- Dates: 21.11 – 06.01
Poznan Bethlehem is one of the largest Christmas Markets in Poland. Its quality can be seen in its nomination for Best Fair in Europe! A whole host of attractions await us both at Wolności Square and the Old Market Square.

One of them is the ‘Christmas Silent Disco’, a party with headphones to Christmas tunes, which will particularly appeal to the youngest. There will also be Christmas Zumba, joint carol singing, various concerts and shows. A special highlight is the annual ice carving show.
There will also be attractions for children – a range of different animations and a meeting with Father Christmas will certainly put them in a festive mood.
Krakow Christmas Market
- Polish: Jarmark Bożonarodzeniowy w Krakowie
- Address: Rynek Główny, 31-422 Kraków
- Dates: 28.11 – 01.01
Poland’s oldest and probably most famous Christmas market, which takes place in the magical setting of the Main Square. The Krakow Christmas Market, as it is officially called, was voted one of the most beautiful markets in Europe by the Times in 2008, and in 2016 it was recognised by CNN in a similar poll.
With other well-known European fairs, Krakow can compete not only with the snowy weather (which many fairs in Western Europe lack), but also with local delicacies such as grilled oscypek or Galician mulled wine. Among the souvenirs and gifts, it is worth noting the woollen products characteristic of the region. Highlights of the fair include the Carol Singers’ Procession or the Dziadowie show.
Bydgoszcz Christmas Market
- Polish: Bydgoski Jarmark Świąteczny
- Address: Old Town Bridge, 59-900 Zgorzelec
- Dates: 22 November to 22 December
Another regional capital rises to the challenge! The Bydgoszcz Christmas Market was recommended to us some time ago by the people of Bydgoszcz themselves. Is there anything to boast about? Despite its short tradition of only 6 years, the Bydgoszcz Christmas Market is already among the most beautiful markets in Poland.

What distinguishes the Bydgoszcz Christmas Market is its location and unique atmosphere. The only market in Poland on a bridge, in the very centre of the city, surrounded by the charming Brda River, it stretches from Theatre Square, across the Old Town Bridge to the Old Market Square. 60 exhibitors not only from Bydgoszcz and the region, but also from Poland, including Silesia, Zakopane and the Netherlands, offer not only a rich gastronomic offer, but also unique handicrafts, a wide range of Christmas decorations and gifts and regional products.

A winter funfair awaits the young visitors, including a 33-metre Ferris wheel, Santa’s choo-choo train, a decades-old unique Venetian carousel with the coats of arms of the cities it visited in its early years, and a maze of mirrors.
The whole is topped off by the attention to decorations and Christmas illuminations, while daily live music makes the fair’s atmosphere unique. Bydgoszcz was accepted into the UNESCO Creative Cities Network in the field of music. Music, is one of the pillars of the city. That is why there are as many as 130 live concerts throughout the fair.
Opole Christmas Market
- Polish: Opole Jarmark Bożonarodzeniowy
- Address: Rynek, 46-020 Opole
- Dates: 22.11 – 24.12

The Opole Christmas Market has taken Opole by storm as one of the most interesting Christmas Markets in Poland. During these days, the market square in Opole will turn into a magical place, full of the smells of fresh Christmas trees, the aroma of mulled wine and delicious gingerbread. It is an excellent opportunity to spend family Christmas time in a unique atmosphere. Visitors will be treated to a number of shows on stage, many additional attractions and workshops for the youngest. The Christmas Market is also the perfect opportunity to find unique gifts among the local exhibitors.

This year, the creative zone will offer, among other things, Christmas tree decorations with baubles, garlands, chains and other wonders; delicious cheeses, oscypek; Christmas cups; sweets, chocolate manufactures; craft beers; handicrafts and regional products. There will also be a Santa Claus, or even many, as the Santa Claus March will pass through the Fair.
Warsaw Christmas Market
- Polish: Jarmarki Bożonarodzeniowe Warszawa
- Address: 01-195 Warszawa
- Dates: 21/11 – 6/01/2026

The biggest event in the capital is the Barbican Fair Decorated with Crafts. This event has for many years enjoyed unflagging interest from locals and tourists who throng the Old Town. Smaller events are also organised in shopping malls. However, it is hard not to get the impression that Warsaw does not have a Christmas Market as rich in attractions as those in Gdańsk or Wrocław. Fortunately, Warsaw has a unique Christmas atmosphere and extraordinary illuminations.
