Finally, Munich Christmas markets 2025 are back! Admit it, you’ve been waiting almost the whole year for hot mulled wine, delicious treats and a cosy atmosphere, haven’t you?
In addition to the large and well-known Christmas markets at Marienplatz or Wittelsbacherplatz, Munich also has many interesting smaller markets. Grab your loved ones, snuggle up under fairy lights and with a delicious hot drink in your hand in front of the fire pits (or patio heaters) and make the coming Advent season a beautiful one!

City Christmas Market on Marienplatz
Despite its size of 20,000 square metres, there are cosy corners that makes your hearts beat faster.

The original Munich Christmas market, which dates back to the 14th century, has been held on Marienplatz since 1972. The setting is simply dreamlike: directly in front of Munich City Hall and under the large Munich Christmas tree, over 156 huts offering Alpine handicrafts and Bavarian Christmas delicacies.
Christmas market at Sendlinger Tor
The Sendlinger Tor, one of the three remaining city gates of Munich’s former city fortifications, inviting visitors to take a stroll again, as the Christmas market there is one of the smallest in the city.

Pink Christmas
I am dreaming of a PINK Christmas! That is the motto of the queer Christmas market in the heart of the Glockenbach district.

Between tents and magnificently decorated trees, it sparkles and shines especially brightly during Advent. Since 2005, the LGBTIQ* community’s Christmas market has been held in the Glockenbach district. The whole of Munich now meets here – families, friends, guests – regardless of their sexual orientation, because this Christmas market is meant to be a place for everyone!
Munich Medieval Christmas Market
The market takes you back in time – and does so sustainably! It is Munich’s first Christmas market to belong to the association of ‘sustainable entrepreneurs’.

Medieval enthusiasts will find all kinds of accessories on offer from the merchants: drinking horns, quills and embossed seals, medieval robes, armour, knight’s equipment and hunting knives. Refreshments are available in the form of hot mead in clay jugs, accompanied by suckling pig, stick bread and smoked salmon. In addition, performances by jugglers, historical dances and show fights, minstrel songs and spectacular fire shows create a unique atmosphere in the heart of Munich.
Fairytale Bazaar Christmas Market
Cosy family winter time in nostalgic fairground buildings

Colourful circus tents, fairground stalls and an enchanting atmosphere reminiscent of the showman’s world of yesteryear await you at the Fairy Tale Bazaar in the Olympic Park. In this fairy-tale world, you can buy and sample homemade, handmade and sustainably produced goods and specialities. There are also readings, workshops and live music on stage every day.
Tollwood Winterfestival

The Wintertollwood is undoubtedly the largest and most diverse Christmas market in Munich. Its motto is ‘Art washes away the dust of everyday life from the soul,’ and you notice this immediately upon arrival – because here you are greeted by a singing and talking Christmas tree, in a different language every day.

After a snowy walk through the snow-covered English Garden, be sure to stop by the Christmas market at the Chinese Tower. When the little stalls selling regional handicrafts, freshly prepared delicacies, mulled wine and punch line up around the historic pagoda and the historic children’s carousel starts turning again, Christmas is slowly approaching. In addition, the two curling rinks and carriage rides provide winter fun, and the tower brass band creates a truly atmospheric atmosphere with their music.
Schwabing Christmas Market
Schwabing celebrates its long-standing tradition as a former artists’ quarter. The gift ideas that arise from free artistic creation and remain memorable are the best form of advertising.

Schwabing has always been considered an ‘artists’ quarter,’ and so the Schwabing Christmas Market at Münchner Freiheit is regarded as the most artistic of Munich Christmas markets. At the numerous artists’ stalls, you will find great gift ideas and lovingly crafted products made of glass, wood, paper, metal, ceramics, felt, stone or leather. After strolling through the Christmas market, warm up at one of the mulled wine stalls or the vegan soup stall. By the way: exciting programme highlights await you here every day, including music acts, district tours and performances!
Haidhausen Christmas Market
It is perhaps the most tranquil Christmas market in Munich, and has been for more than 40 years.

For more than 40 years, the small but charming Christmas market has been held at Weißenburger Platz, delighting not only the Heidhauser neighbourhood every year. The mulled wine and delicacies huts are arranged around the square in two circles. This makes it easy to drink and feast your way from one stall to the next: the Speckhüttn offers wooden boards with South Tyrolean bacon and cheese, the beer stand serves home-brewed beer, and mead, sausages, potato dishes and flambéed salmon also tempt Christmas market visitors.
Sendling Christmas Harbour
Christmas on an old steamboat from the Bavarian lake fleet, topped off with a dash of nomadic culture with yurts – this is the mix offered by the Christmas market on the Alte Utting!

All aboard! The decommissioned excursion steamer from Lake Ammersee is once again rocking in a sparkling sea of lights in Sendling’s Christmas harbour. You can get really cosy in the snug yurt, at one of the fire pits or in the pirate tent with delicious organic mulled wine, hot Aperol and Hugo. You can also look for individual Christmas gifts such as fine jewellery, ceramics and handicrafts from all over the world.
Feuerzangenbowle
Nostalgic winter festival behind the Schrannenhalle

When the air is filled with the scent of cinnamon and orange, over 9,000 litres of fragrant punch made from red wine, rum, cinnamon and oranges blaze in a cauldron over three metres high, and huge sugar loaves are spectacularly burned, then Munich’s Feuerzangenbowle begins.The market combines winter cosiness with a nostalgic cinema experience: images and sounds from the Rühmann classic are projected onto the courtyard walls, creating pure magic.

The Christmas village in the courtyard of the Residence creates a particularly festive atmosphere – secluded from the hustle and bustle of Munich city centre and sheltered from the cold winter weather. In this replica Bavarian farming village, craft workshops are of course a must: glassblowers, goldsmiths, furriers and woodcarvers. The lovingly designed fairy-tale forest with its fairy-tale boxes and snow-covered winter landscapes will delight children and adults alike.

Every year, the Winterrausch Christmas market takes place around the Hexenhaus, featuring artistic craft stalls and cosy fire pits.
