Popular Hamburg Christmas markets 

1. Christmas market at the Town Hall Square

With almost three million visitors annually, it is one of the most popular Christmas markets in Germany.

• Location: Rathausmarkt, 20095 Hamburg
• Dates: 24 November – 23 December
• Opening hours: 11 a.m. – 9 p.m

‘Art instead of commerce’ is the motto of the historic Christmas market in front of the town hall. In addition to a toy alley, you will find plenty of arts and crafts and even your own town hall market mulled wine. Three times a day, Santa Claus flies over the amazed crowd in his reindeer sleigh – at 4 p.m., 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.!

2. Gänsemarkt Christmas market

Christmas market in one of Hamburg’s most famous squares.

3. Santa Pauli Christmas market

The programme for Hamburg’s coolest Christmas market in St. Pauli is fresh, crisp, lively and also a little bit crazy.

• Opening hours: Monday – Wednesday: 4 pm – 11 pm Thursday: 4 pm – midnight, Friday: 4 pm – 1 am, Saturday: 1 pm – 1 am, Sunday: 1 pm – 11 pm

4. Christmas Market Wintergarten St. Pauli

The winter garden in front of the Rindermarkthalle St. Pauli offers a change from the traditional Christmas markets. One highlight is curling, where you can compete with your companions in a sporting contest and challenge them.

• Dates: 12 November – 23 December

5. Barmbek Christmas Market

Experience winter magic with a carousel and hut village

6. Osterstraße Christmas market

This market is a long-standing tradition in Eimsbüttel. Strolling past the Scandinavian Christmas houses, you can buy Christmas presents in the romantic glow of the lights.

8. Fleet Christmas Market

10. WinterPride St. Georg

WinterPride goes beyond the traditional Christmas market offerings in Hamburg and supports the LGBTQ+ community.

13. Spitalerstraße Christmas Market

If you are looking for handicrafts, cultural activities and original gifts, this is the place for you.

In 150 tiny workshops, craftsmen spin, carve, grind, fire and engrave – unusual gift ideas and an attractive programme tempt visitors to linger. 14. Bergedorf Christmas market

Hamburg’s oldest Christmas market on the city’s only remaining medieval site

15: White Magic Jungfernstieg

Hamburg’s dazzling Christmas wonder. On the banks of the Binnenalster, tradition and modernity merge to create a Christmas experience in a class of its own, where mulled wine, craftsmanship and a breathtaking atmosphere take centre stage.

16. StrandPauli Winter-Wonderland

From November to February, beach club will be transformed into a cosy winter wonderland with kiosks, mulled wine and curling – right on the banks of the Elbe! Hamburg’s first and probably longest winter wonderland in the city.
