About London’s New Year’s Day Parade 2025

Since 1987, every New Year’s Day in London will hold a grand London New Year’s Day Parade, which is London’s largest New Year’s Day celebration, attracting millions of spectators every year (except for 2021 due to the epidemic), the activities of the whole process by the British television stations and the United States of America PBS television coverage or live broadcast, so the influence is very large. The whole event will be covered or broadcasted live by major UK TV stations and PBS in the US, making it a very influential event.

The London New Year’s Parade is so popular because it’s fun to watch and listen to, and the fun performances are spectacular, with nearly 100 organisations taking part in the parade, countless bands and dance troupes, and thousands of performers in colourful squads, each of which puts on a show, either in fancy dress or singing and dancing, and puts on the most spectacular appearance.

Time

The parade starts at 12 noon on Wednesday 1 January 2025 and is expected to last until around 3.30pm.

Route

The parade starts from Piccadilly Circus and travels along Regent Street, Telfast Square, Whitehall, Downing Street and all the way to Westminster. The full route is approximately 3.2 kilometres.

Tickets

The event is free and open to the public and free to watch all along the route. Due to the large number of spectators, you’ll need to get there early if you want to get a good spot in the front row.

If you want to enjoy a more comfortable viewing experience, you can buy a paid ticket for the event. There are seats along the route with a great view, so you don’t have to stand for 3 hours to watch the whole event comfortably, and you can also interact with the performance team, which is a very good experience.

The Grandstand seating area is located near Piccadilly Circus and costs £65 per ticket, while the VIP seating area is located near the Palace of Westminster near the end of the procession and costs £175 per ticket. Although the price is quite high, it is very popular every year, so if you want to see the London’s New Year’s Day Parade, you should get your tickets early!

Performing teams in London New Year Parade

Although the New Year’s Parade was held in London, the participants and performances were very international, and included a dragon and lion dance performance by the London Chinatown Chinese Association (LCCA), which this year had quite a large line-up, featuring not only two dragon and lion dance teams, but also a panda squad and a Chinese drum performance.

London is a cosmopolitan city with a rich mix of ethnicities and cultures, and the New Year’s celebrations will be rich in ethnicity, with the Filipino community in the UK presenting traditional dance performances and Miss Philippines, while Esperanza Flores Folkloric Dance Troupe will be presenting a balletic and refreshing dance performance of traditional Mexican storytelling and culture. and ballet with traditional Mexican stories and culture. The colourful Croatian Guard of Honour Association will be in London with their eager drumming and energetic procession.

The London’s New Year’s Day Parade will, of course, feature a large number of marching bands, symphony bands, choirs and dance troupes from the UK itself, as well as motorbike teams, motorbike teams, Miss Britain pageant winners and other groups, which will not only present a high level of performances, but also a number of dazzling feats of skill. This year there will also be the West End Musical Choir taking to the stage with a performance, so looking forward to that!

Horse parades are also an essential element of Britain’s celebrations, with the All The Queens Horses ride bringing together riders and horses from all over the UK in a spectacular display. From Shires, Shetland Dwarfs, Iberians, Connemaras, Friesians, Welsh ponies and racehorses, it’s a great way to see and get up close and personal with them all at once!

Ostler, the UK’s largest coach company, will be driving three historic carriages in the parade, showing spectators traditional aristocratic manners.

The parade includes many bands from the United States, such as the Shenandoah University Marching Band. The Shenandoah University Marching Band is unique in that instead of the xylophone and marimba prelude of a traditional marching band, they have a six-piece rock band with two guitarists, a bassist, two keyboardists, and a drummer that is full of energy and vibrancy!

In addition, there is the Varsity Spirit All-American Cheerleaders bringing a youthful, positive presence and energetic performance.

Samba dance performances are an integral part of the parade every year, with colourful costumes and dazzling dance moves that create a mesmerising and exotic atmosphere. This year, the London Samba School (LSS), founded in 1984, will be celebrating its 40th Anniversary with a performance, and was the first school team to take part in the Notting Hill Carnival in London.
